Art Nouveau Ironwork
There IS some good ironwork in Costa Rica if you know where to look for it. Luckily we had Johan Cubillos as a tour guide in central San José. These Art Nouveau gates and fence are almost entirely hand forged and inlude a great many forge welds. There are a few cast components such as the molded collars but they are appropriate for the design. It is speculated that a European smith was brought over to do this job or that the work was imported as this is the only example. |

San José Railway Station: Like many railway stations this one is a beautiful well built structure.
The ironwork reflects the general quality of the building.
After an earth quake destroyed part of the railway from Limon to San Jose the railroad was shut down. Officualy it was shut down because of costs but unofficialy it was shut down due to political intersts that owned trucking companies. |
