This is a beautiful example of a classic French anvil. The lines are clean and crisp and there is little wear and tear.
The "church windows" seem to be more symbolic than styalistic.
After having observed a number of these anvils bydifferent manufacturers I have come to the conclusion that the upward slope of the face to the tip of the round horn is a feature, not an error as they appear to be if you only see one.
Note howevr that not all of this style anvil have the slopping face, not even all of those from this manufacturer. But it is definitely a feature.
Typical of the French anvils this one has a small side exit hardy hole.
- Marked "SCHMITT A PARIS - 1841"
- Weight: 390 lbs ? ( kg)
