Firetools for Craftshows
During my craftshow days I made all kinds of small items including many fire tools in a variety of styles.
Besides long handled tools I also made short handled dust pans that were very popular.
The broom ends were made by Butch Hutchinson, a craftsman we met while doing one of hundreds of shows in Southwest Virginia.
During that weekend in 1978 we developed the first (?) hand tied brooms on forged handles.
A variety of colors were later tried. I liked the maroon the best.
Butch is graduate of Brea College in Kentucky and was a vocational arts instructor at Norton High School, Norton, VA, USA.
The last time I spoke to him he was superintendent of schools. . and not doing brooms any longer. Such is life.
