While this looks like the ultimate in having someone look over ones shoulder having an experianced welder demonstrate welding to a student who is closely observing is a very good teaching method. However, the student should have his own helmet.

Having the student focus on a bead being made with proper technique, then the instructor coaching the student from the same distance can be very benificial. - anvilfire guru.
