FRANKLIN C. TABOR September 30, 1919 ~ December 5, 2012 "Frank had an outrageous sense of humor that was the source of hours of laughter for family and friends." Franklin C. Tabor, 93, passed away Dec. 5, 2012 in Vancouver, WA. He was the youngest of five children born to Claire and Bertha (Hansen) Tabor in Marmarth, ND on Sept. 30, 1919. During his teens, the family moved to Oregon where he graduated from McMinnville High School. Frank enlisted in the Navy during WW II, serving onboard a repair barge at Eniwetok in the South Pacific. He also taught at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. In 1956, Frank and his wife, Juanita, bought the Pekin Ferry Moorage on the Lewis River. They ran it until moving to Fern Prairie in 1977. Frank made his living as a welder and sheetmetal worker, both skills acquired in the Navy, retiring from Columbia Machine in 1981. He loved animals, and fishing and cruising the river in an airboat, built with his son, Jay. They won the Mechanix Illustrated Gold Hammer Award for the Project. Music and art were two hobbies at which he excelled. Frank was self-taught on the guitar, violin, banjo and harmonica. He was a published cartoonist in national magazines such as Saturday Evening Post, Good Housekeeping and many others. Frank is survived by his wife of 69 years, Juanita; his daughter, Gayle Anderson; son, Jay (LouAnn); granddaughters, Kristin Lewis and Kendra Cook; and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Austin and Savannah.
