Rings made from flat stock are hammered over the horn of the anvil to shape them. The ends are scarfed on the horn and lapped the proper distance; then a heat is taken, and the ring welded

and rounded into shape. A ring may be made by scarfing the ends of the bar before it is turned in ring form, but this is seldom necessary.
