is riveted onto the plate. In doing this a square hole is punched in the plate and countersunk on the back. After the lug is riveted it is dressed smooth with a file or grinder. The rings are first twisted; then the tenon is filed round at the ends. They are then heated and formed and may be sprung onto the lug while hot.
