Bill Wojcik, The Plains, VA demonstrated forging copper clad steel ground rod.
Bill has demonstrated at several CVBG events and is a member of MASA.
He started by showing the special hammers he uses for this particular project. One has a textured face for putting the texture lines in the tree branch. Forging clad ground rod is very tricky. The steel is a tough springy cheap material selected for the purpose of being a driven ground rod. The material must be forged at very near the 1850° melting point of the copper. Too hot and the copper melts and burns off, too cold and the steel splits. |
