In this intensive 4 day workshop we will study heat treating, punching, drifting, tapering, drawing out, riveting, scrolls, and more. Students will forge a variety of forms using traditional techniques.

All tools, materials, and well equipped student work stations are provided. The curriculum is a series of demonstrations at the instructors anvil followed by immediate hands on work. This class is designed for beginners who would like to get started right and those with some forging experience seeking a solid foundation in this craft.

   Dan Boone's Annual Pasture Party: Louisa, VA
A one day event. Lots of different demonstrations going on, tailgating and Iron in the Hat. Time, 9am and 4pm. Lunch included.

No up-front registration fee, but you MUST PRE-REGISTER BY CALLING 540-967-3267. We must limit registrations to the first 250. You can call at anytime before 9pm to leave your name, address and phone number.

Costs for the day are paid for by the Iron in the Hat, so you must bring something for this event, and be prepared to buy some tickets to help offset our expenses. We've had some really cool things in the past and look forward to many more this year. See the anvilfire NEWS coverage of this event from previous years.

Louisiana Artist Metalsmiths Association, LAMA is holding their 2007 conference – “Banging On the Bayou” set for Saturday and Sunday March 10 and 11, 2007 at the grounds of Beaver Park, across from the airport, in Lafayette, Louisiana. Sign-in starts at 9:00 AM and professional blacksmith demonstrator, Lorelei Sims, is lined up for a great learning experience. A tailgate area will be set up for your buying or sale of tools and “stuff”. Lunch is included for Saturday and Sunday. An auction in the evening and raffle drawing for a box of handmade blacksmith tools followed by an evening crawfish boil on site will culminate Saturdays activities.    Advanced Blacksmithing I – The Hand Forged Garden Gate: Old West Forge White Salmon, WA
This is an intensive 4 day class. An estimated 40 hours of shop time over a 4 day period are necessary to complete this project. The goals of this class are 1) to demonstrate the process and particulars of forging and assembling a garden gate using traditional joinery and 2) for each student to build and take home a hand forged garden gate.

Prerequisites: Students should have a good command of basic forging skills such as chamfering, drawing out, punching, upsetting, twisting, riveting and scrolling.

   Northwest Ohio Blacksmiths Hammer-In: Auglaize Village near Defiance, Ohio
The Northwest Ohio Blacksmiths 21st annual Hammer-In. Main demonstrators are Kim Thomas and Michael Bendele. Spouse program includes a silver bracelet class taught by Don Witzler. Three hands-on classes are scheduled. Friday evening activities include an anvil stew dinner with salad and dessert contests. Good West Virginia coal will be available from Dennis Coal Sales. The Saturday banquet will be a catered event.

   Holston Mtn. Knifmakers Hammer-In: Bristol TN, USA
This years featured demonstrators will be Wally Hostetter, Kevin Cashen, Don Fogg, Dr. Mike Blue, Rick Furrer, and Steve Schwarzer.

There will also be a new brand of air hammer available for a demonstration.

This event will take place the first weekend in May, at Lonesome Pine Forge (Larry Harley's).

PLEASE pre register as I need to keep track of the participants. For more information or to register, contact LarryHarley at 423-878-5368 or by downloading registration form and sending it along with the fee of $100 and a bag of real wood charcoal.

This event will be geared toward a small informal gathering . Mike Blue and Rick Furr will make steel again this year :)

Kevin Cashen, and Vince Evans ;2 of my favorite sword makers will demo some of the finer points of forgeing a sword blade.

Don Fogg will also demo that week end,along with Wally Hoffseter, who will be doing a demo on handles and furniture on japanese swords

There will be a sword cutting comptetion . Bring your sword..

I am asking all participants to bring projects you are working on and I'm also asking that you bring something that didn't quite workout or something you are having trouble with or questions about. This should facilitate the leaning experience.

We will also have an Iron in the Hat saturday. afternoon. Sunday afternoon will be a round table and a knife show so bring your knives and swords.

   Southern Illinois Metalsmiths Society Annual Conference: The event will take place in the University Museum and the Smithy in Pulliam Hall Industrial Wing, on the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale campus.
The demonstrators this year include Phil Baldwin, Alice James, Daryl Meier, Sarah Perkins, James Wallace, and the Angel family from Santa Clara Del Cobre, who will be demonstrating coppersmithing.

There will also be a retrospective of L. Brent Kington's work on Friday, starting at 5:00 PM
